Publishing checklist

The Website Media Publishing Checklist

Review meaning, accessibility, responsive behavior, and performance before a media-rich page goes live.

Check the story before the files

A final review should confirm that every visual adds information or useful emphasis. Remove repetition before spending time refining captions and compression for assets the page does not need.

Editorial review

  • The opening image establishes the subject and supports the page promise.
  • Every later image contributes a new stage, detail, comparison, or outcome.
  • Captions explain relevance instead of merely naming visible objects.
  • Credits and usage rights are complete and consistently formatted.

Accessibility and interaction review

Alternative text should communicate meaningful information that would otherwise be missed. Carousels need visible controls, keyboard support, clear position indicators, and a pause control when motion is present. Essential actions should remain available without interaction.

  1. Navigate every control using only the keyboard.
  2. Confirm meaningful reading order and focus order at narrow widths.
  3. Review alternative text alongside the surrounding copy to avoid duplication.
  4. Check captions and controls at increased text size and zoom.

Responsive and performance review

Inspect crops on small phones, tablets, laptops, and wide screens. Use responsive sources, efficient formats, appropriate compression, explicit dimensions, and lazy loading below the fold. The finished page should preserve clarity without unnecessary weight.

Complete the final publishing pass

  1. Read the page without media and confirm that its argument remains understandable.
  2. Review the visuals without body copy and confirm that the sequence is coherent.
  3. Test slow loading, missing images, long captions, and disabled motion.
  4. Confirm links, actions, metadata, and the final mobile layout.

Review the complete media showcase

Apply the checklist to a page combining video, grids, and a controlled carousel.
